The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District is planning an evening to offer local residents the opportunity to discuss the challenges that they faced during Hurricane Sandy. Titled “Coping with the Aftereffects of Superstorm Sandy: An Evening to Listen, Learn and Share,” the session will be led by credentialed disaster-support professionals from the American Red Cross, and will be held in the Mepham High School auditorium on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. more

It was filled with cleaning and baby-care supplies, all neatly labeled, a gift from an anonymous donor. According to veteran members of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School girls’ varsity swim team, the Garden City High School squad has always been hard to beat. Genna Kranis, a senior at Kennedy High School, recalled that the Trojans made a special cake and shirts to celebrate their 100th straight win. Calhoun High School senior Sarah Greco said that Garden City swimmers make celebratory jumps into the pool after successful meets. more

Gloria Chapman was once Gloria Dinger. She once lived on Kenneth Avenue in North Bellmore, after moving into her home in 1933. She once climbed an apple tree when playing with friends near Camp Avenue, which had only four houses and a farm when she was in elementary school. more
At Mepham High School’s entrance, across from the gymnasium, there is a trophy case devoted to the school’s athletic program. It’s full of trophies, some dating back to 1938. more
Fifth in a series on Bellmore-Merrick students of the arts. It would be challenging to find a young performer more multi-dimensional than Kristen Murphy. The North Bellmore resident is already an accomplished dancer, singer and actress. She has won seven solo dance competitions up and down the East Coast, and has performed in front 500 people at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury, formerly known as the Westbury Music Fair. more
