Mepham swimmer takes second at states

The Nassau County record in the boys’ 50-yard freestyle had stood since 1982, long before any current high school student was even born. Austin Kowalsky, a senior at Mepham in North Bellmore, set out to change that this year, and handily did so with a time of 21.1 seconds, one-tenth of a second faster than the 30-year-old record. more

Within six years, every student in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District should know how to save a life with cardiopulmonary resuscitation or an automated external defibrillator. Bellmore-Merrick Sharks swim frigid waters for a cause

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District swim team, the Sharks, recently took part in the Long Beach Polar Bear Super Bowl Sunday Splash to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Their efforts, combined with support from their families, friends and teachers, enabled them to raise more than $3,300 for the cause. more
