Coming off its best finish ever in a power point-based league (fourth-overall), Kennedy hosted its first boys’ lacrosse playoff game since 2000 last Friday, with the hopes of advancing to the semifinals for the first time in 12 seasons. more

Six Kennedy High School seniors recently competed in the prestigious Long Island Science & Engineering Fair, hoping to win one of 20 slots in the International Science & Engineering Fair, which began last Sunday in Pittsburgh. LISEF was held in two stages –– at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury in February, and at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Uniondale in March. All six Kennedy students, who were participants in the school’s three-year Authentic Science Research Program, were finalists in the competition. One of them, 18-year-old Brett Gossett of Bellmore, prevailed, winning a place at ISEF for a behavioral science project that he completed at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Hospital last summer. more

With just three seniors, the Kennedy softball squad has worked hard all year to remain consistent. But things may have finally come together recently, according to first-year coach Tom Piccarillo. more

The 13th annual Merrick Kid Fest filled downtown Merrick with smiles and laughter as hundreds of children came for two days of games, rides and fair food this past weekend. more

Kennedy continued to pound out hits and runs on the diamond, sweeping district-rival Mepham in a three-game series last week. The Cougars, 8-2 overall, finished off the sweep on April 19, 13-9, on the strength of home runs from Rob Delgado, Jordan Leopold and Michael McCormick. more

Kennedy’s defense worked feverishly to keep Elmont’s leading scorer Ben Odugbesan from being the difference in last Saturday’s Conference B-II boys’ lacrosse game, and it was mission accomplished for a group led by junior Brandon Klein. more

The Mepham, Calhoun and Kennedy track and field teams recently competed in the sixth annual Paul Limmer Pirate Track and Field Invitational at Mepham High School in Bellmore. more

Nearly two years ago, three Kennedy High School students –– Samantha Finkel, Ross Iscowitz and Jordan Horowitz –– had an idea. They wanted to start a tutoring business so they could educate their peers in a variety of subjects. They put their plan into action during their junior year, but instead of keeping the profits, they sent part of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society, and thus, Tutors for a Cure was born. more

The buzz was electric as more than 200 students, faculty members, parents and alumni eagerly awaited the arrival of ESPN broadcasters, and Kennedy alumni, Steve Levy and Adam Schefter. more
