A member of the Valley Stream Board of Trustees for the past 14 months, Vincent Grasso says he has always wanted to make a difference in his community. After unsuccessful bids for the Hempstead Town Council, Nassau County Legislature and New York State Assembly, Grasso finally got his chance when he was appointed to the village board by then-Mayor Ed Cahill to fill a vacancy last year.

A Nassau County Board of Elections worker has been charged with forging a petition for a candidate for the County Legislature. The petition nominated Republican Christian Browne, who ran against Baldwin resident Joseph Scannell for the 5th District seat in 2009. The Nassau County district attorney’s office has accused 27-year-old Imtiaz Insanally of Valley Stream with writing false addresses on a nominating petition.

Jim Darcy will not run for mayor of Valley Stream next month, leaving two candidates vying for the position. Darcy submitted his letter of declination to Deputy Village Clerk Bob Fumagalli shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday, the deadline to accept or decline nominations for the village election.
