$200K for village electric work

The village of Rockville Centre approved more than $200,000 in street- light improvements at an early morning meeting on Aug. 11.

The lowest bidder, Frank Robustello & Son Inc., was awarded $230,318 to replace lighting infrastructure on Hamilton Street, Stratford Road and Oxford Road, all between Plymouth Road and Brower Avenue. The work includes the replacement of conduits, splice boxes, foundations, streetlight poles and lights. This will be funded through the electric department’s budget.

“Most of these type of lights have been replaced on other streets in the village over the past several years,” Village spokeswoman Julie Scully wrote in an email. “The lighting on these streets is an earlier design and some have been out of service, hence the need to expedite replacement. The village is also looking to coordinate this work with the Phase II road program.”

The work schedule has not been finalized because the award has just been approved. It is expected to take two months total, which includes about a month to fabricate the splice boxes and foundations for the streetlight poles. “The contractor will coordinate work with residents to minimize the impact,” Scully wrote.
