Veterans Honored

A salute to local veterans

Posted

Last Friday evening veterans were honored at Eisenhower Park’s Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre. The evening was dedicated to the Tuskegee Airmen.

According to National Park Service, “’Tuskegee Airmen’ refers to all who were involved in the so-called ‘Tuskegee Experiment,’ the Army Air Corps program to train African Americans to fly and maintain combat aircraft.”

"The Tuskegee Airmen overcame segregation and prejudice to become one of the most highly respected fighter group of World War II,” the website states.

Dean Karahalis and the Concert Pops of Long Island presented a “patriotic revenue of American music” following the USO Liberty Bells and the traditional “Roll Call of the States.”

Additionally, Nassau County Dental Society, a component of the New York State Dental Association and the American Dental Association, provided oral health care to veterans and Nassau county event participants.

The dentists volunteered their skills to provide free oral cancer screenings.
