East Meadow High School seniors triumphed at Battle of the Classes on March 2. Students gleefully prepared for months in hopes of defending their class honor and the annual competition drew nearly 500 participants.

Battling for hours, students had their athletic ability, coordination and teamwork tested as they participated in relay races, tug o’ war, dodge ball, musical chairs, volleyball, a three-point basketball shootout and more.

Following a seasonal theme, seniors represented summer and wore gold, juniors designed white shirts for spring, sophomores dressed in royal blue for the fall and freshman were decked in wintery baby blue.

Class captains also organized their teams to create entrance skits and dances that related to their specific theme.

Students who excelled in the arts helped their class earn points in the competition by designing team T-shirt and creating large murals that were hung in the gym during the bout.

A week before the event, classes were also challenged to a pie-eating contest.

Following the seniors, juniors placed second and freshman jumped ahead of the sophomores to place third.

Leading this major school event was physical education instructor Lisa Gegerson and Spanish teacher Jen Mangino.
