Changes make more shopper spaces

The village has changed some parking spots to give shoppers more room.

In total, 23 spots in Municipal Parking Lot No. 16 have been changed to metered two-hour shopper parking. Municipal Parking Lot No. 16 is between Merrick Road, North Village Avenue, Sunrise Highway and North Centre Avenue.

Out of these spots, six were three-hour shopper parking, and 17 were employee parking.

“So in the last six months this board promised you we would help parking,” said Mayor Francis X. Murray. “And we originally had 58 spots, this is another 15 spots for residents and visitors to our village to park and shop in Rockville Centre.”

The village announced the change at the July 11 board of trustees meeting.

“Employee parking is being moved further away from the downtown area to provide more spots for shoppers and visitors to the village’s thriving downtown,” wrote Julie Scully, village spokeswoman, wrote in an email.
