Delayed opening for Avalon Rockville Centre

The first move-ins for tenants renting in Avalon Rockville Centre have been pushed back until July 1, said a spokeswoman for the real estate company.

According to the spokeswoman, late-running construction work caused the delay. The first tenants were supposed to move into the apartment complex — which holds 349 units — on June 17.

Building One, which will open to the first group of tenants next month, comprises 210 apartments and should be completed sometime in late 2011. Building Two, just south, will contain another 139 apartments when construction work finishes in the second half of 2012, said AvalonBay Development Director Chris Capece. AvalonBay is currently operating on TCOs (Temporary Certificates of Occupation) that were granted by the village Building Department as construction work continues. A TCO is normally in effect for 30-to-90 days.
