Sirens and lights were roaring for first place on Saturday, June 23 when East Rockaway Fire Department hosted the annual 4th Battalion parade.
The parade took off at 6 p.m. starting on North Boulevard and ended on Main Street. The 4th Battalion consists of five fire departments: East Rockaway, Lynbrook, Malverne, Lakeview and Rockville Centre. There were guest appearances from the Oceanside and Hewlett fire departments.
All seven departments were judged for first, second and third place for three different categories: For the fifth year in a row, the Lynbrook Fire Department took Best Appearing Overall Fire Department, with Rockville Centre taking second and East Rockaway taking third place in the category.
For Best Appearing Band, Rockville Centre took first, Lynbrook second, and Lakeview third. For Best Appearing Junior Fire Department, Lynbrook came in first, East Rockaway second, and Rockville Centre, third.
