Elmont Farmer’s Market gets special guests

The Elmont Farmer’s Market, which will be held every Thursday during the summer, until Nov. 17, at the Alva T. Stanforth Sports Complex in Elmont, had a special guest on July 14: the Long Island Banjo Society, which includes members Bill Borisotti and Phil Phersching.

“We’ve been doing this a long time,” Borisotti said, adding that he and Phersching have both played the banjo for more than 40 years. “We always have a great time playing.”

Borisotti and Phersching, who are both from Suffolk County, have played together for several local festivals and other events. They played at the Elmont Farmer’s Market from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday.

The Elmont Farmer’s Market was created through a collaboration by the Elmont Chamber of Commerce and Friends & Farmers Inc. A variety of goods from local vendors are showcased at the market, including fresh tomatoes, pickles, corn, strawberries, fish and organic bread.

The market is held every Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Alva T. Stanforth Sports Complex — located just west of the Elmont Memorial Library, on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont.
