Elmont woman arrested for alleged assault

An Elmont woman was arrested for an alleged assault on July 28 at 3:25 p.m. in Elmont.

Nassau police were called to a house Sunday afternoon for a disturbance where they found Zaire Steele, 18, arguing with another woman. Police said the argument escalated and Steele allegedly bit the woman on the wrist.

When officers tried to arrest Steele, she allegedly resisted and refused to comply with verbal commands.

One officer was injured during the arrest after Steele allegedly bit his hand. The injured officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Steele also allegedly spit on another officer, according to police.

Steele was charged with assault, harassment, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. She will be arraigned July 29 at Hempstead District Court.
