A Taste of Elegance

Join the Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce on Oct. 16 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the St. Agnes Cathedral Parish Center for a night of dining — sampling village restaurants’ signature dishes — dancing and wine tasting. Village Trustee David Krasula and Robert Williams, Esq. are being honored. Advance tickets (until Oct. 10) are $25. Tickets the night of the event are $35. Proceeds will benefit The Hispanic Brotherhood of Rockville Centre and The Theresa Alessandra Russo Foundation. For more information, call (516) 766-0666 or visit www.rvcchamber.com.

Two Family Concerts

The South Shore Symphony Orchestra, under the musical direction of Scott Jackson Wiley, will entertain local families with a lively exploration of the fascinating and intimate connection between music and nature with two family concerts. The first concert will be performed on Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Old Westbury Gardens. On the next day, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m., the symphony will perform a second concert at South Side Middle School. The orchestra will present Vaughan Williams' "The Wasps" (overture), Ravel’s "Mother Goose Suite," Mussorgsky’s "Night on Bald Mountain," Rimsky-Korsakov’s "The Flight of the Bumble Bee," Dvorak’s "In Nature’s Realm," Wagner’s "Forest Murmurs" (from Siegfried) and Dukas’s "The Sorcerer’s Apprentice." The concert at Old Westbury Gardens is free with admission to Museum Tickets. The concert at the Middle School is $15 for adults, children under 18, seniors and members of the Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts are free. For more information, call (516) 616-3610 or visit www.sssymphony.org.
