Fun and friendship in Rockville Centre

What organizers describe as one of the largest fall fairs on Long Island took place last Friday and Saturday at Ascension Church on North Village Avenue from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both days. The biennial Friendship Fair featured bargain-priced jewelry, collectibles, crafts, antiques and books. It also offered baked goods, jams and jellies to take home and moderately-priced lunch, dinner and snacks for visitors to enjoy on-site. Raffles, special auctions and live entertainment added to the enjoyment.

In addition to providing major financial help for the landmark church that celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2010, a portion of the proceeds from the fair will go to Episcopal Charities of Long Island in response to its annual appeal for contributions.

“The thing that pleases us the most is the warmth of the reception we receive from the community,” said Judith Berglund, the Friendship Fair’s publicity co-chair.
