80-year-old Hempstead woman arrested after confrontation with police in Roosevelt

An 80-year-old Hempstead woman was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, in Roosevelt after a confrontation with police.

Officers responded to a complaint at a residence on E Clinton Avenue and encountered Betty Cater, of Ingraham Boulevard. During the investigation, Cater reportedly became agitated, striking an officer in the face and scratching his neck, resulting in injuries.

She resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody. The injured officer was treated at a nearby hospital.

Cater is facing charges including assault, obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest.

She is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, September 2, 2024, at First District Court in Hempstead.
