Standout East Meadow High School student Kathryn Mendoza will join 86 students from around the world in her first semester at the highly selective Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Massachusetts.

Olin selected Mendoza through a unique, personalized admission process, which included a weekend visit to the college where she participated in a design and build exercise, interviewed with many members of the Olin community and spent time getting to know current Olin students.

Mendoza was chosen from an applicant pool of nearly 600 students. Her excellent academic and extra-curricular credentials stood out among the hundreds of first-rate applications. As a member of Olin’s class of 2015, she will have the opportunity to help shape the future of the young, innovative college.

Supported through a grant of approximately $460 million from the F. W. Olin Foundation, the college offers half tuition merit scholarships, valued at more than $75,000 per student, to all admitted undergraduates. The generous endowment has supported the construction of Olin’s state-of-the-art facilities and the hiring of nationally renowned faculty members. Some of the nation’s top students have joined the college.
