Bari Koral Family Rock Band performed at the Long Island Children’s Museum on Feb. 21 and 22 to the delight of kids and parents alike. The New York-based singer-songwriter grew up around the corner, in East Meadow, and was glad to share her music with a local crowd.

Koral attended East Meadow High School where she was involved with musical theater, but when she picked up guitar as a college student at Syracuse University, she knew she wanted a career in music.

After touring for years as a pop-rock artist, Koral came back to New York and began improving songs for kids at the Long Island Children’s Museum when listeners suggested she focus on this genre.

“The energy is just off the roof with kids,” said Koral. “It’s more fun to play and write for them. It comes from a place of love, light, fun, loving. That’s what the world needs right now.”

When Koral was younger she wanted to be famous. “It was an empty wish,” she said. But now she simply wants to share her talent with children and their parents.

Koral said some of her songs are based on literary characters (“Gingerbread Man”), while others are made to get kids moving (“Train Song”).
