Kriss cites 'Personal Reasons' for not seeking re-election in Rockville Centre

Speaking at the end of last week’s Board of Education meeting, school board Vice President Stephen Kriss cited “personal reasons” to explain why he will not seek re-election to the board. In a decision he described as last-minute and “bittersweet,” Kriss said that another term would “not be right for myself or my family at this time.”

Kriss said he and his fellow trustees, who are “terrific,” try to present the best budgets possible. He described his three years on the school board as having been a wonderful experience. And he said he wanted to thank the administration, District Clerk Cynthia Geones and the public for their support. “Thank you for the opportunity to serve, “ he said.

“I kind of knew Steve wasn’t running,” said school board President Liz Dion. “I want to thank you from the community. You always make us laugh,” she told Kriss, adding that he also always takes the time to comment on any questions.

Trustee Gregg Spaulding thanked Kriss for mentoring him. “It’s been a pleasure,” he said, “You’ll be missed.”
