Learn about Long Island's Diamondback Terrapin

Posted

Friends of the Bay will offer its second free online presentation on May 27 at 7 p.m. as part of its 2020 Speaker Series when naturalist John Turner will present, "Diamondback Terrapin: The Turtle with the Clown Lips."

The lecture will provide an overview of one of Long Island's most iconic species — the Diamondback Terrapin, which is the only native turtle that occurs in brackish water. Turner will offer basic information about this fascinating reptile and most importantly what one can do to help it survive on Long Island.

Turner is a Long Island naturalist, conservationist, writer and a founding member of the Long Island Nature Organization and Long Island Pine Barrens Society. He currently serves as a Conservation Policy Advocate for the Seatuck Environmental Association and Conservation Chair of the Four Harbors Audubon Society.

This event is free and open to the public but registration is required. Email info@friendsofthebay.org to register. For more information, visit www.friendsofthebay.org.
