Little League teams wrap up their season

The Minor League eight-team double elimination playoff tournament came to an end on June 16 under clear skies in a well-played game. The game remained scoreless through six innings of regulation play and ended with Mormile Florist winning on a two out, walk off base hit in the bottom of an extra inning.

Positive Promotions held on for a hard fought 8-6 win over Harms Realty to capture the RVC Little League Majors Softball championship. Harms Realty fell behind 8-1 early, but chipped away and had the go ahead run at the plate in  last inning.

A well played game by both teams. After losing to Mackens one week earlier to put them into the losers bracket, Front Street Bakery got their revenge with a convincing 9-5 victory to take the American League (10’s & 11’s) Championship. Both teams are winners and will both receive trophies at the awards dinner later this year.

On June 19, the Junior League’s (13-14 year old) Championship game was held at Barash Field. In a hard fought 6-5 game, the St. Agnes High School Alumni sponsored team defeated the Lt. Winchester-sponsored team. St. Agnes opened an early 6-2 lead behind the pitching of Ben Rubenfeld who went 5+ innings to get the win. In the 6th inning, the Lt. Winchester team rallied to get within a run at 6-5.

However a nice defensive play by Carter Cosgrove, together with the masterful relief pitching of TJ Avgerinos, who came on to get a strikeout with the bases loaded, and then finished the save with a 1-2-3 7th inning, secured the win for St. Agnes. Jack McLaughlin pitched well for the losing Lt. Winchester team and held the St. Agnes team without a hit after the 3rd inning. St. Agnes was led by the hitting of TJ Averginos, Max Losardo, Mark DeFiore and Kevin Kane.
