Candidates forum

The League of Women Voters will host a forum with the six candidates running for City Council at 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the Long Beach Library.

Zoning board
meets at City Hall at 7 p.m.
on Oct. 22.

City Council

meets at City Hall at 7 p.m.
on Nov. 17.

Library board
meets at the library at 8 p.m. on Oct. Nov. 18.

Luncheon meeting
Speaker Bernie Rader, a former prisoner of war, will be the keynote speaker at a luncheon meeting at the Community Center, at 650 Magnolia Blvd., at 1 p.m. on Oct. 22. For reservations call 432-6034.


Take a walk on the civic side
The Walks Assocation, a civic group of the Walks neigborhood in Long Beach, will hold a regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the Cass Center at St. Ignatius Church, at 721 W. Broadway. The guest speakers will be the three Democratic candidates for City Council. Also, visit the civic group’s new Web site at www.thewalksassoc.blogspot.com.


Photos needed for city calendar
The City of Long Beach is looking for photography enthusiasts to submit horizontal photos of the the ocean, bay, beachfront, streets during summer, winter, spring and fall for its 2010 calendar. The submissions deadline is Oct. 22. Photos should be high resolution JPEGs or PNGs and sent to info@longbeachny.org. Photos can also be dropped off or mailed to the public relations office at Long Beach City Hall, at 1 W. Chester St., Room 502, by 4 p.m. on Oct. 22.  


Coat drive
The Lions Club of Long Beach will begin its annual coat drive on Oct. 24. Coats may be dropped off at the Laurel Cleaners on West Park Avenue at Laurelton Boulevard. For information call 431-6863.   


Beach clean up
The Long Beach High School Surf Club will hold their 4th annual community beach clean up on Oct. 24, starting at 12 p.m. at National Boulevard. The rain date is Oct. 25.

Catholic school crystal ball
The Long Beach Catholic Regional School will hold its annual Crystal Ball at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24 at The Sands at Atlantic Beach. The honorees for this year’s event are Dr. Bennett Gallinaro and The Merola Family. Tickets and commemorative journal ads can be purchased by contacting JoAnn Joyce at 897-3035.
