Malverne historical society celebrates 25th anniversary

Posted

I would like to congratulate the Malverne Historical & Preservation Society for 25 years of successfully serving the community in retrieving and maintaining Malverne’s history.

The historical society was founded on Aug. 11, 1986. The founding members, led by Keith and Roz Rossein, included Pat and Richard Gumo, Bruce Halderman, Cathy Hunt, Gerald Janske, Anne and Ed Koelbel, Anne Marcus, Peg Paone, Ran Purcell, Joe Romans, Arthur Weinstein, Frank Wenzel and Frank Zito.

It has been my pleasure to be on the board for six years. It was also my pleasure to work with Peg Peone and Jeanne Landers, who purchased the Joseph L. Landers Memorial Restoration building to house the historical society. I would like to thank the boards that have dedicated their time for the last 25 years to carry on the vision of the original board to preserve and catalog Malverne’s past. Many of you are still involved with the historical society today. I would also like to thank the current board: Phil Ballin, Rosalie Pampillonia, Joseph Hennessy, Toni Sussman, Vito Ilardi, Ed Hassel, Tricia Cook, John Soran and Candy Baranello. We are continuing to carry on the  the vision of organizing, preserving, displaying and making available the historical information of Malverne.

For our 25th anniversary we have chosen to work with a local Malverne artist, Arthur Raymond, to create a calendar featuring his artwork. Raymond is an award-winning artist who has lived in Malverne for many years, capturing the sights and flavor of living in the village through his paintings. The calendar has a limited printing and will have 13 of his artworks suitable for framing when the calendar is done. You can purchase the calendar for $10 by calling (516) 792-1910 or emailing at rjpinmalverne@aol.com. There will also be an artist signing in the near future.
