Montesano to represent 15th Assembly District

Michael Montesano won the special election on Feb. 9, and was sworn into the Assembly two days later.Though he plans to have a ceremonial swearing in at a future date, the Republican from Glen Head said he is ready to work with his new colleagues on the state budget proposal.

Montesano beat Democrat Matthew Meng convincingly, totaling 3,868 votes against Meng’s 1,539, according to results from the Nassau County Board of Elections.Governor David Paterson called for a special election in the 15th Assembly District when Republican Rob Walker stepped down in January to become the chief deputy under County Executive Ed Mangano. Montesano’s term is for 10 months. For him to win a full two-year term, he must run in November.Montesano owns a law practice in Glen Cove and is a former school board president in the North Shore School District and previously an acting village justice in Roslyn Heights.

The 15th Assembly District encompasses Salisbury, a portion of East Meadow, Hicksville, and several communities on the North Shore in the towns of North Hempstead and Oyster Bay.
