Nicholas Tursi attains Eagle Scout rank

Posted

Nicholas V. Tursi, 16, attained the rank of Eagle Scout on May 22 at the Bethany Church in East Rockaway, with dozens of other scouts, scouting officials, village, town and state officials, family, friends and well-wishers in attendance.

Nicholas, a junior at East Rockaway High School, has been involved in scouting since 1998 when he joined the Cub Scout Pack 363 as a Tiger Scout. He crossed over to Boy Scout Troop 1121 in 2004, and has held a number of leadership positions within the troop.

“It’s great, a wonderful feeling,” Nicholas said after the ceremony.

For his leadership project, Nicholas renovated 14 windows for the Bethany Congregational Church. His project was to scrape off the old paint, and to prime, repaint and cork the old windows. Window supplies were donated by Bethany Church, Ken Clark of East Rockaway Hardware and Paint, and other local merchants.

At school, Nicholas is a member of the National Honor Society and is involved with the senior band, jazz ensemble, and NYSSMA. He takes an active approach with community service and feels it’s important to give back to the community.
