Katherine Elinor Oswald, of Riverhead, formerly of Malverne and Rockville Centre, died on Dec. 31. The beloved wife of the late Edwin Francis Oswald, she was the loving mother of Edwin Gerard, Stephen Gerard and John Gerard, and the adoring grandmother of Eddie, Nicholas, Melody and Alec.

She will always be an inspiration and example to her devoted family for her love, warmth, strength, determination, understanding, wisdom and encouragement.

Kay, as her friends called her, was a registered nurse. She began her career in industrial nursing at Lever Brothers in Cambridge, Mass. During her years serving the health care community, Kay held a wide range of positions with several companies including Bloomingdales and Doubleday Publishing, and was the chief nurse for the European American Bank in Uniondale.

Growing up outside of Boston, Oswald attended Mt. Auburn Hospital School of Nursing and received her Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Boston College. She also studied the piano throughout her childhood, performed in recitals during that time and shared her great love of music with her family throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends and also very much celebrated.

A Solemn Requiem Mass was held on Jan. 7 at  St. Agnes Cathedral. Interment took place at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Flinch & Bruns Funeral Home in Lynbrook.
