A man was arrested in East Meadow last Sunday morning after police say he drove drunk on the sidewalk on Carman Avenue and nearly caused a collision.
Nassau County police say Christian Delacruz, 37, of Highland Hills was observed by a third precinct police officer driving his 1998 BMW southbound on the sidewalk of northbound Carman Avenue at about 4:20 a.m.
Delacruz then allegedly continued on the road in the wrong direction, driving across four lanes, and causing the officer to swerve to avoid a head-on collision.
The officer stopped Delacruz, and placed him under arrest after he failed a sobriety test.
Delacruz is charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than .08, aggravated driving while intoxicated, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, and multiple other traffic infractions. He was arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
