Malverne village announced last week that the 2016 Roadway Improvement project was scheduled to begin November 1 and will affect the following streets over the next several weeks:

  • Nassau Avenue: from Hempstead Avenue to Ogston Terrace
  • Norwood Avenue: from Hempstead Avenue to Cornwell Avenue
  • Derby Court: from Malverne Avenue to Alnwick Avenue
  • Lindner Place: from Nassau Avenue to St. Thomas Place
  • St. Thomas Place: from Hempstead Avenue to Lindner Place
  • Silver Street: from Cornwell Avenue to Atlas Avenue

The first phase of the project will focus on handicap ramps and concrete work — which is required for proper grading of the roadways. This effort is estimated to take place during the first two weeks.

The project’s second phase involves milling and overlaying all aforementioned streets. It’s estimated that this will take a week’s time. All time estimates are weather permitting.

The $1 million Roadway Improvement contract was awarded to Suffolk Asphalt of Medford, N.Y. A total of six bidders replied to the village’s Request for Proposals.

Malverne government officials are still working with the utility companies to determine which streets will be the focus of roadway improvement efforts in 2017.
