Rockville Centre Crime Watch - Dec. 3, 2009

People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrests

Rodney Tucker, 35, of Jericho Turnpike, Jericho, was arrested on Nov. 16 at 11:40 p.m. and charged with criminal contempt and harassment. Police said they arrested Tucker at the apartment of his ex-girlfriend on Jefferson Avenue after she told them that at 11:25 p.m. he had entered her apartment and physically harassed her, in violation of a court order of protection.

Maria Leo, 44, of Honey Drive, Syosset was arrested at 5:05 a.m. on Nov. 21 and charged with driving while intoxicated. According to police, Leo was arrested at the scene of a two-car accident on Sunrise Highway and N. Centre Avenue after she was identified as the driver of an eastbound vehicle that struck a southbound unmarked Nassau County police car. The driver of the police car and a passenger in Leo’s car were taken by ambulance to South Nassau Communities Hospital for treatment of injuries that were non-life threatening. After the responding Rockville Centre police officers determined that Leo had been driving while intoxicated, she was taken into custody and transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries she received from the accident.

Andres Benjamin, 30, of Church Avenue, Brooklyn, was arrested at 7:50 p.m. on Nov. 22 and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation. Benjamin was arrested after police stopped the truck he was operating on Sunrise Highway, for having defective taillights, and discovered he was driving with a suspended license.

Burglaries

On Nov. 19 at 10:55 p.m. a resident of Cedar Avenue reported to police that someone broke the lock of a side window to get into his house, and stole two watches and a pocketbook, valued at approximately $2,000.

At 4:25 p.m. on Nov. 20, a Powell Avenue resident told police that someone cut one ground floor window screen, and removed another, but was unable to open a window to get in to the house.

Also on Nov. 20, at 6:10 p.m., a Lexington Avenue resident reported to police that someone cut open the screen on a rear ground floor window to get into her home. The victim said she was unable to determine if anything was stolen at that time.

At 10:35 a.m. on Nov. 22, a Raymond Street resident told police that he discovered that someone had pried and broken the door handle lock assembly on a side screen door, in an apparent attempt to get into his home.

Criminal mischief

On Nov. 20 at 7:35 p.m., a man reported to police that someone used a black magic marker to damaged the passenger door of his 2002 Jeep Liberty, which was parked in Municipal Parking Field 5.

Identity thefts

On Nov. 18 at 2:15 p.m. a resident of Hamilton Road told police that he received a notification from American Express Credit Secure that someone had tried to use his identification to open a credit account at Brooks Brothers, which was done without his knowledge or permission.

At 3:45 p.m. on Nov. 20, a Shepherd Street resident reported to police that sometime in July 2009, someone opened two credit accounts using her name and social security number, without her knowledge or permission, and charged a total of $12,061 to both accounts.

Larcenies

On Nov. 16 at 9:30 a.m., a man told police that someone broke into the driver’s side window of his car, which was parked in Municipal Parking Field 12, and stole his I-phone and charger from inside the car.

At 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 18, a woman reported to police that while she was shopping inside King Kullen, 127 Sunrise Highway, someone stole her purse containing $200 in cash, personal identification and a credit card from her pocketbook which was in her shopping cart.

On Nov. 19 at 7:20 p.m., a man told police that someone stole several credit cards, personal identification and a set of keys from his locker inside Bally’s Gym, 60 Merrick Road.

On the same day at 8:15 p.m., another man reported to police that someone stole $200 in cash, several credit cards and personal identification from his locker inside Bally’s Gym, 60 Merrick Road.

On Nov. 20 at 11:10 a.m., an employee at Molloy College, 1000 Hempstead Ave. reported to police that the previous day, someone stole her purse, containing personal identification, $40 in cash and credit cards, from a desk drawer in her office.

At 2:25 p.m. on Nov. 21, a resident of S. Lewis Place told police that someone stole a Cablevision access card from her home receiver and charged approximately $400 in pay-per-view movies to the card account number, without her knowledge or permission.
