People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrests

A 59-year-old homeless man was arrested on April 29 near Quealy Place and charged with criminal possession of stolen property after police say they saw him in possession of three calculators that were allegedly stolen from the Pain Management Company of Long Island, 77 N. Centre Ave. on April 27.

A 24-year-old Bellmore man was arrested on May 2 at 1 a.m. and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon following a reported assault that allegedly occured in Stingers Pub, 300 Sunrise Highway.

Investigation

On April 27 a resident of Old Mill Court reported hearing gun shots in the vicinity of the playground area in Old Mill Court at 10:24 p.m. Witness near the softball field told police that they saw a heavy set man fire approximately six rounds into the air and then flee on foot into the playground with two other men. No shell casings were found at the scene.

Assault

On May 27, at 2 a.m., three male victims were reportedly assaulted near Merrick Road and N. Park Avenue but three unknown men who drove east on Merrick Road in a Mercedes Benz.

Unusual incident

On April 27, a resident of Shellbank Place reported to police that at 8 p.m., her 11-year-old daughter was approached by a man driving a white van with yellow and orange stripes near Shellbank and Hendricksen Avenue. The suspicious man reportedly asked the girl, who was walking with a friend, if she needed a “lift.”

Burglary

On April 27, the manager of Pain Management, 77 N. Centre Ave. told police that between April 26 at 10 p.m. and April 27 at 5 a.m., someone entered the office without permission and ransacked multiple desks.

Larcenies

On April 27, the Rockville Centre Police Department received information from San Deigo police regarding an identity theft report taken in San Diego. The victim reported that an unauthorized purchase in the amount of $287.13 was made at Radio Shack, 264 Sunrise Highway on April 8.
