Garage sale

South Side High School’s Sophomore Class will hold a fundraising tag sale on June 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hewitt Elementary School on DeMott and Hempstead avenues.

Cathedral anniversary concert

The community is invited to St. Agnes Cathedral on the evening of June 6, at 7:30 p.m. for a concert to celebrate the 25th anniversary of music, honoring Michael L. Bower, Dame Holliday Haynes (Contralto), with the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys, The Cathedral Chorale, The Cathedral Schola Cantorum, The Cathedral Singers, Soloists & Orchestra. The repertoire will Include a world premier and selections from Handel. A champagne Reception will follow in the Parish Center. Suggested ticket donations are $15 and $10, available at the door.

Free “Heartsaver” CPR/AED Course

On June 6, in recognition of Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Day, Mercy Medical Center invites the community to attend a free American Heart Association “Heartsaver” course from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The workshop will provide instruction in adult and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Israeli Scout Caravan

On June 8 at 7 p.m., Temple B’nai Sholom, 100 Hempstead Ave., will host the International Israeli Scout Troop. This caravan consists of high school level scouts, both boys and girls, from all over Israel. They travel around the USA in small groups to perform traditional and modern Israeli songs with well-choreographed, energetic dances. Everyone is welcome to come to see their performance,and help welcome them to Rockville Centre. Suggested donation is  $5 per person (optional). Concert fundraiser

Rosa Lee Young presents The Acchords, a live rock & roll performance on June 11 at Kasey's, starting at 7:30 p.m.Tickets are $35 and include performance, dancing,hors d'oeuvres, desserts, coffee & cash bar. For tickets and more information, call (516) 536-5674

Family Fun Day

June 12 from 3-6 p.m. at St Marks Nursery School - 200 Hempstead Ave. The raindate is June 13.

Seeking Flea Market vendors

On June 13, Central Synagogue will host a Flea Market. Space is available for the sale of all types of crafts and merchandise. In addition, there will be a display of memorabilia of the history of the synagogue and its relation to the growth and development of Rockville Centre. There should be a strong attraction for a large attendance. Vendors from the village and surrounding communities are invited. The cost of space is $50 per table. Gala to honor outgoing Rabbi Schwartz

On June 22 at 6 p.m., Temple B'nai Sholom,100 Hempstead Ave. will host a gala evening to honor Rabbi Dr. Barry Dov Schwartz and his wife, Sonia. The event will feature musical entertainment, as well as tributes by community leaders to mark his retirement after 37 years of distinguished service to the congregation of Temple B'nai Sholom and the Rockville Centre community. Girl Scout Award Ceremony

Members of the community are invited to join Rockville Centre’s Girl Scouts in congratulating their friends and neighbors as they receive their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards on June 19 at 1 p.m. for a 45-minute presentation at St Mark’s United Methodist Church, 200 Hempstead Ave. A dessert reception will follow.

Tree of Life Yoga

Central Synagogue of Nassau County, 430 DeMott Ave., is sponsoring a summer "mini" session, with evening classes of yoga. The classes are open to yoga students of all levels. The Tree of Life Yoga series of five classes begins on June 29 at 7:30 p.m. The series of classes is available for $60 or you may pay as you go for $15 a class. Members of the community are invited to participate. Chi Gong with Marianna Farina

Register for Summer Programs

Applications for summer programs: Baseball School, Girls Basketball Clinic, Boys and Girls Lacrosse Camps, RVC Rec “Ultimate Gymnastic School,” Mad Science Camps, Cartoon-Time, Tennis Lessons, Happy Piano Adventure and assorted Gymnastics Clinics are available. Registration for Softball Leagues for men and women and Basketball Leagues for boys and girls in grades 5 and up are being accepted by the Parks and Recreation Dept. during April and May. The Summer Playground Program, in its 56th consecutive year, will be conducted from June 30 through Aug. 12 for residents in grades

1-6 (as of 9/10) and Grades 7 and 8 (as of 9/10). Registration is being accepted for these programs as well. Call the Rec Centre for schedules and fees.

Fall 2010 Nursery School

openings - Young children need the opportunity to interact with their peers in an environment geared to their needs. The Rec Center has it all. Call to make an appointment to visit. Classes being Sept. 13 and follow the same holiday schedule as the public schools. Classes offered are Pre Pre K on four mornings,two afternoons for children entering kindergarten in 2012; and Pre K classes on five mornings and three afternoons for children entering kindergarten in 2011.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Headlines with Carol Carlton

Beginning June 7 at 2 p.m., Carol leads a lively discussion on topics pulled from today’s headlines. $5 per session for non-members.

7th Annual MahJongg Tournament

June 17 at 1 p.m. This tournament is geared toward all players — beginners to advanced. $5 for members and $10 for non-members. You must sign up in advance.

Chinese Auction

June 18 at 1 p.m. Fun-filled auction, complete with egg rolls, almond cookies and Chinese tea. $4 per person ($8 per person late sign up fee applies Thursday and Friday).

Center Stage Luncheon and Performance

June 23 at noon. After a delicious lunch, the members of the Center Stage Chorus will perform. $6 per person ($7 on the day of the event)

Trip to Mohegan Sun Casino

June 24. Limited space available. $32 per person.

AARP Defensive Driving:

Aug. 12 and Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. You must attend both evenings. This course is open to Sandel members and residents of Rockville Centre. $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-AARP members. Call the center for availability.

Thursday Evenings are back with Tai Chi from 4:15-5:15 and Yoga from 5:30-6:30. Both classes are taught by a certified instructor. $5 per session for non-members.

June 8 at 11 a.m.: Keeping Food Safe, presented by the Cornell Cooperative Extension.

June 22 at 11 am: “EPIC” NY State Prescription Protection for Seniors.

Sandel Senior Men’s Club:

The club meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 10:00am for breakfast and business. At 11:00 am, when available, guest speakers discuss topics of interest to men. A variety of trips & programs are scheduled for July and August.
