The Oberammergau Passion Play: A Discussion

The Institute for Interfaith Dialogue at Molloy College invites the community for a discussion of the play on Sept. 26 at 3 p. m. in the Hays Theatre, Wilbur Arts Center, Molloy College campus. Steeped in tradition and controversy, the play continues to attract fans and critics as it dramatizes the final days in the life of Jesus, his death on the cross, and his miraculous resurrection as narrated in Scripture. In recent years this piece of performance pageantry has been undergoing a metamorphosis as its creative team seeks to balance modern sensibilities with ancient Gospel narratives. Our panelists will discuss whether this evolution has been successful or is it still a work in progress. Speakers include Rev. Thomas M. Catania, Ph.D., Molloy College, Rabbi Paul Kushner, and Pastor Dr. Roger D. Johns, St. Mark’s Methodist Church. Members of the audience who have attended this play will also be invited to express their opinions. For information call: (516) 678-5000 ext 6880 or 6162. There is no charge for this program.
