Rockville Centre resident honored by his alma mater

John Cameron receives Meritorious Alumni Service Award from U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point

Rockville Centre resident John D. Cameron, Jr., P.E., the founder and managing partner of Cameron Engineering & Associates, LLP has been recognized by his alma mater, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. Cameron was presented with the Meritorious Alumni Service Award by the Academy’s Alumni Association at an ceremony during the academy’s homecoming weekend. An active supporter of the academy, Cameron serves as the chairman of his class reunions, a member of the superintendent’s council and the McNulty Society. He is a regular speaker at the Midshipmen’s Industry Awareness Nights and is actively involved in fundraising for the academy. He is also a past recipient of the academy’s Outstanding Professional Achievement Award.

In addition to his work at his alma mater, Cameron is actively involved in his profession, his community, educational and environmental organizations, as well as his home parish of St. Agnes Cathedral. Among his diverse involvements, Cameron serves as chairman of the Long Island Regional Planning Council. He has been recognized by many organizations for his contributions, including most recently, the St. Agnes Medal of Service (with his wife, Loretta), ERASE Racism’s Corporate Leadership Award, the Professional Engineering Society’s Engineer of the Year Award, the David Award by Networking Magazine and he was again named to the “Power List” by the Long Island Press, placing 11th in its 2011 list of the “Top 50 Most Powerful and Influential Long Islanders.”

The coming months should prove to be very exciting for Cameron and Loretta, as their son, Andrew, and his wife, Colleen, are expecting their first child in January. The following month, their daughter, Christine, is set to marry John Koehler, formerly of Oceanside.
