The Rockville Centre Fire Department held its annual Memorial Service on Oct. 15 to honor the seven department members who died during the past year.
With an invocation from Monsignor William Koenig, of St. Agnes Cathedral, and words of support and admiration from Mayor Francis X. Murray and Department Chief Brian Cook, the service respectfully acknowledged the contributions made to the community by those recently lost. Firefighters and residents alike gathered together for the ceremony.
The men who were remembered included Honorary Chiefs Edward Bennett (58 years of service), Robert Fishkind (66 years), Donald Schluter (47 years) and Frank Germano (63 years), as well as Fire Police Captain Kevin Brown (21 years), firefighter Sergio DiBenedetto (17 years) and Department Chaplain Harald K. Kuehne.
