Lynbrook resident Jenn Liguori has been awarded The Dance Space Scholarship (DSS) for 2011. Candidates are selected based on their commitment, talent, age, attendance, and passion for dance.

Jenn, 17, who will be a senior at Lynbrook High School in the fall, has been attending The Dance Space for a couple of years. She also plays lacrosse, runs track, is on the kickline team and participates in her school’s “Class Night.”

Jenn has taken Hip hop, African/Reggae, Modern/Lyrical, and technique classes, and looks forward to taking advantage of other classes at the studio, including ballet, Broadway and theatre jazz.

“Jenn is very talented dancer,” said Lauren Quarants, director at The Dance Space. “She works very hard at her dancing and consistently improves. Her dedication to dancing, to The Dance Space, and her leadership qualities is the reason why she won the award.”

The Dance Space Scholarship is presented to one dancer each year. The winner is given the opportunity to take an unlimited amount of dance classes at no cost. Each year candidates will be chosen to compete for the scholarship.

In addition to winning the scholarship a donation will be made to All Stars Project, Inc in the dancers/studio name. All Stars Project, Inc or ASP is a non-for profit organization that provides dance and theatre training for underprivileged children in the New York area.

“We believe in giving back to our community and teaching our students to do the same,” said Quaranta. “With a dance and theater education, students are given the opportunity to gain self confidence and self respect — assets that no child should be without!
