Tanning for a good cause

Want to tan and help people this holiday season? Beach Bun tanning salons will hold a charity Free Tan Day on Dec. 13 at all 13 Long Island Beach Bum locations.

On that day, all proceeds from all of the stores will go to St. Mary’s Hospital for Children. Also, anyone who drops off a toy or warm winter clothes will get a free tan.

“Any age range at all because the kids there are all different ages,” said Kelly Kirsch, director of marketing at Beach Bum, of the toy donations. “Anything unwrapped or new, unused. Anything at all.”

This will be Beach Bum’s eleventh charity Free Tan Day. The event started in December 2009 and has been done twice a year ever since. The owners of Beach Bum, Nick Galanis and Tommy Regoukos, started the Free Tan Day when they owned a Red Mango in Bayside near St. Mary’s Hospital for Children.

Over the course of ten Free Tan Days, Beach Bum has raised more than $200,000 for St. Mary’s. The company also sponsored the hospital’s pool.

“We definitely are very big on charity,” said Kirsch.

Beach Bum hopes to raise $20,000 this year. In the past, Free Tan Day has raised between $12,000 and $20,000.

Beach Bum will have other promotions that day, including Free Face Airbrush, $5 Sunless Booth sessions, $20 Full Body Airbrush sessions, and 25 percent off a package or membership with any donation. Beach Bum has locations in Rockville Centre, Oceanside, East Meadow, Merrick and Seaford.
