A taste of the sea: Where to find great ocean fare on the South Shore

Posted

By Deirdre Krasula and Mary Malloy

Living on the shores of the great Atlantic Ocean, Long Islanders have long been connoisseurs of succulent and freshly-caught and cooked seafood. Whether it’s lobster tails in butter, delectable crab cakes, stuffed flounder, Mojito salmon or Cajun shrimp, our local restaurants really know how to serve up a seafood feast — and we know how to enjoy it!

We have chosen just a few of the many restaurants that either specialize in seafood or have a signature dish or two that speaks to the sea-faring diner. Bon appetit – or rather, ahoy, matey!

The Fishery Oyster Bar & Chowder House

One Main St., East Rockaway

The Fishery sets the standard for quality and freshness. In business for more than seven years, they have dedicated themselves to serving absolutely the freshest fish in the seafood industry.

“Try our seared ginger teriyaki tuna and our lobster rolls,” said owner Charles Lunenfeld. “They are two of our most popular dishes in the summer — and year round.” Lunenfeld is also proud of his selection of seafood chowders.

The Fishery boasts an outside deck and bar with live music nightly from 7 to 11 p.m. for the summer months. “If the thought of succulent seafood makes your mouth water, then we would love to have you visit us at The Fishery,” said Lunenfeld. Look the newest restaurant, “The Fishery Grill,” opening at the end of August in Glen Head.

(516) 208-8733

New location: 21 S. Park Ave., Rockville Centre

The Beach House is “seaside casual,” exuding a festive presence to western Long Beach — and now Rockville Centre on S. Park Avenue.

Now in its fourth year, The Beach House is owned and operated by a well-seasoned team of restauranteurs: Rob Richards, Tim DelGrosso, Kevin Killarney and Ben Freiser, who is also the catering manager.
