The Town of Hempstead hosted its annual African-American History Month celebration at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion on Feb 23. At this year's program, which featured keynote speaker Harold Ford Jr., a former congressman, the town paid tribute to several local residents for their community and town service.
Among those honorees was John Hinton of West Hempstead. He received a Distinguished Employee award for his 25 years of town service. Hinton is pictured above, receiving his award from Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, left, and Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby.
