Town of Hemstead Street Hockey Tournament

The Town of Hemspstead Annual Street Hockey Tournament was held on August 5th and 6th at Seaman's Neck Park in Seaford. Kids in the Junior Division played on Monday and the Senior Division played on Tuesday. In the past, the Tournament was held in Shell Creek Park, but this year, Seaford's Seaman's Neck Park was the setting. Close to 20 teams from the various Town of Hempstead Parks participated. The Senior Teams from Veterans Memorial Park in East Meadow took home the third and fourth place trophies. Vets, as they casually refer to themseves as, is comprised of kids from the towns of East Meadow, North Bellmore, and North Merrick. Led by their Coaches, Nick, Alexis, "Peanut" and Rob, these players had a very strong finish. Each of the three senior teams was undefeated, an amazing record for Vets. The Vets team practiced twice a week, and on occasion, the coaches held an additonal practice on Sunday evening. One of the successful Town Of Hempstead Summer Activities for children, the Street Hockey team at Vets has many "veteran" players, such as Kevin Montalti, who began playing at six and just finished his "career" at thirteen. Next week, the coaches plan to hold a celebratory pizza party for the team.
