An East Meadow teenager was arrested in connection with a brick-throwing incident on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, New York State Police said.

Andrew Denton, 17, of East Meadow, and Jacob Palant, 19, of Syosset, have pleaded not guilty on charges of throwing bricks from an overpass on the Meadowbrook Parkway on Dec. 26.

The pair allegedly threw a brick and cinder blocks from the walkway south of the Glenn Curtis Boulevard overpass, hitting two vehicles.

According to New York State Police, an unidentified 21-year-old Island Park man was driving one of the cars, a 1996 BMW. Police reported that his 22-year-old passenger, a West Hempstead woman, suffered permanent damage to her cornea when shards of glass flew into her eye. The car sustained $1,500 in damage. The other vehicle, a 2015 Jeep, had about $5,000 in damage. No one was injured in that vehicle, according to the police report.

Denton and Palant were charged with second-degree assault and criminal mischief, both felonies and second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.

They were arraigned in Nassau County First District Court on Jan. 2. Shams Tarek, a spokesman for the Nassau County District attorney’s office, said both teens pleaded not guilty.

Palant was released on $25,000 cash bail. Judge Scott Fairgrieve set bond at $1 million for Denton because he is being held on other charges stemming from his violation of an order of protection. In that case, he faces misdemeanor charges of criminal contempt and aggravated harassment.

Denton was represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County, which does not comment on cases as a matter of policy.
