The John J. Byrne Community Center celebrated its newly furnished facility in Uniondale, a project primarily sponsored by Las Vegas Sands.

“The John J. Byrne Community Center is more than just a building,” David Greaves, president of the John J. Byrne Community Center, said. “It’s a cornerstone of our community.”

Community members and business leaders came out to tour the newly designed building on Aug. 1, see the new furniture, and enjoy an abundance of refreshments.

The center has been operational for a year now, after the group acquired the building in July 2023, but the renovation drastically improved its offerings. There are updated meeting rooms and conference rooms open for community groups to book at their leisure, such as zumba classes, birthday parties and holiday extravaganzas, Greaves said.

The construction and furnishing of the center was facilitated and sponsored by multiple organizations, including Sands, B2K Development, and Waldner’s Business Environments.

“We’ve been in this community for a couple of years now, just trying to get to know people and understand the issues that are important in this community,” Ron Reese, senior vice president of Las Vegas Sands, said. “Events like today show our commitment to this community.”

The center showed its gratitude to Sands by unveiling a plaque on their donor recognition tree to “serve as a lasting reminder of their generosity,” Greaves said.

“[Sands’] support has not only furnished our center, but has also reinforced the foundation upon which our community can thrive,” he said.

Going forward, the center plans to focus on upgrading technology, improving security and creating even more spaces for recreational and community gatherings, according to community center secretary Yvonne Dailey.

“Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for Uniondale residents by providing a space dedicated to learning, growth, and community engagement,” she said.
