Valley Stream charity walk to benefit family of late Marine

Posted

A charity run benefitting a former Valley Streamer is set for this Saturday in Arthur J. Hendrickson Park to honor her late husband, a decorated U.S. Marine, who was recently killed in a carjacking in Miami, Fla.

Laura Comme, 27, a Central High School graduate, is travelling to Valley Stream from her Miami home for the fundraiser, the proceeds from which will help her and her 9-year-old daughter Mya continue to live in their house.

Comme’s 27-year-old husband, Guillermo, was shot and killed by a carjacker on Sept. 18, according to CBS Miami, while returning from a family party.

Guillermo and Laura married and bought a house together in 2014. Laura said she doesn’t want to move out of the house that her husband put so much work into, but has trouble making ends meet.

Tickets cost $35, which includes a T-shirt and number. Check-in is at the Gazebo in Arthur J. Hendrickson Park at 9 a.m. Donations are encouraged. The race will start at 10 a.m. and end at noon, and refreshments will be served from noon to 1 p.m.
