The Valley Stream Council of PTA's held its seventeenth annual legislative breakfast on March 16 in the Valley Stream Memorial Junior High School cafeteria, and several notable dignitaries were on hand for the event.

The breakfast, a community-based outreach meeting that brings together elected officials and the residents they represent, was attended by Valley Stream Mayor Edwin Fare, Town of Hempstead Councilman Edward Ambrosino, Nassau County Legislator Carrie Solages, New York Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages, New York Assemblyman Brian Curran, New York State Senator Dean Skelos, U.S. Congressman Gregory Meeks and a representative for U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, along with school officials from each Valley Stream district.

The Valley Stream community has long-enjoyed a special relationship with state legislators, and the hope is for the good relations to continue well into the future. The presence of the Valley Stream community members at the breakfast, along with state legislators and school officials, was a true testament to the continued priority that the Valley Stream residents and their representatives have always placed on educating Valley Stream's most precious asset - its children.

Legislators listened and responded to concerns and suggestions from Valley Stream residents, while Valley Stream Central High School District Superintendent Dr. Bill Heidenreich spoke on behalf of school administrators. “Valley Stream board members and school leaders are proud to be an integral part of the public education system in our community,” Heidenreich said. “At times, we vigorously disagree with the rhetoric of policy makers on education, but we can agree entirely upon the bigger picture. We must strive to do better for our students. Our goal is to go beyond ensuring that every student finishes school college and career-ready, but rather, to be prepared for the endless possibilities that the future will bring. We work hard each day to clear all that stands in the way of our teachers and students from achieving this vision.”
