A Rockville Centre woman was arrested on Sunday after an accident on North Centre Avenue that claimed the life of a passenger in her car.

Police said that Asya Ulmer, 21, of Clinton Avenue, was driving a 2000 BMW north on North Centre Avenue when she struck a parked tractor trailer near Meehan Street. Ulmer’s passenger, Jennifer Alexis, 21, of Bayside, Queens, was pronounced dead at the scene by Rockville Centre Fire Department paramedics.

Ulmer was transported by a Fire Department ambulance to South Nassau Communities Hospital after complaining of pain, and was later charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol.

She was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday. Judge Eric Bjorneby set bail at $20,000 bond or $10,000 cash. Ulmer faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of the charges.

Police continued an investigation of the crash this week.
