The Long Island Children’s Museum celebrated a milestone birthday for one of its most beloved residents as Franklin, the museum’s Eastern box turtle, turned 50.

During the “shell-ebration”, young visitors met Franklin, learned about Eastern box turtles, made party hats, signed a birthday card and decorated a pretend birthday cake with fake worms and cockroaches.

Franklin has lived at the museum since 2002 and serves the museums oldest animal ambassador. The family-friendly event gave children an opportunity to interact with Franklin while learning about wildlife in a fun, hands-on setting.
