The Long Island Pizza Festival returned to Nassau Coliseum’s Outdoor Plaza for its second year bringing together pizza tastings, live entertainment and dozens of local vendors on Sept. 19.

The festival expanded to the Coliseum this year after more than 2,500 people attended its inaugural event, exceeding organizers’ expectations and filling all available vendor spaces.

Attendees sampled slices from pizzerias across Long Island during two sessions, from noon to 3 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. Participating restaurants included Dario’s, King Umberto, Dough and Co., Borrelli’s, Galleria, Uncle Frank’s, The Onion Tree, Mama Theresa’s, Donatina, Serpico’s and others.

The festivities also included live entertainment, highlighted by a performance from Long Island native Mike DelGuidice, a member of Billy Joel’s band.

“Pizza is more than just a meal on Long Island, it’s part of who we are,” Frank Antonetti, co-founder of the Long Island Pizza Festival, said ahead of the event. “The goal of the Long Island Pizza Festival is to give pizza lovers a chance to experience the incredible talent we have right here in our own backyard, while creating a fun day that brings the whole community together.”
