Six teens arrested after police disperse 150-vehicle car meetup at Mitchel Field in Uniondale

Six people were arrested and 22 vehicles were impounded after police broke up an unpermitted car meetup involving roughly 150 vehicles in Uniondale on Aug. 18, Nassau County police said.

Officers responded to Mitchel Field, at 1 Charles Lindbergh Blvd., around 10 p.m. after receiving reports of the gathering. Because of its size, officers from several specialized Nassau County police units including a rapid response team and a Canine Unit along with Hempstead police. Officers issued about 100 vehicle and traffic summonses and impounded 22 vehicles.

Police said officers stopped a 2010 Volkswagen near Charles Lindbergh and Earle Ovington boulevards after observing several traffic violations. During an investigation, officers allegedly recovered a loaded .22-caliber handgun from the vehicle.

The driver, Maleyna Galeano, 18, and passengers Nya Reeves, 20, Joshlynn Almonte, 18, all from Central Islip, and two boys, ages 17 and 16, were arrested. All five were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Galeano was also charged with multiple vehicle and traffic violations. The car was impounded.

Police said the Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team separately stopped a Black 2012 Audi near Charles Lindbergh Boulevard and West Road after allegedly observing traffic violations. Investigators found what police described as a forged New York state inspection sticker and a wooden baton in the trunk.

The driver, Jordi Perez, 28, of West Babylon, was alone and was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, displaying a forged inspection sticker and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

All six defendants were arraigned Aug. 19 in Hempstead, with the two juveniles appearing in the Youth Section of First District Court.
