For Viper Collision, the custom cars on display Saturday weren’t just polished showpieces — they were a way to bring Uniondale together and raise support for the community.
The local auto body shop hosted its inaugural Custom Car & Bike Show at the John J. Byrne Community Center, combining over 50 of custom vehicles with local vendors helping with fundraising efforts.
The event was designed to support local causes while giving residents a free day of entertainment.
“I’ve always been very big on giving back. Even when I was going to college, I was always in groups and organizations,” said Viper Collision owner Saul Berrios. “Now that I have, a platform., I’m able to organize more people to do things.
So, we’ve been, we still do food drives, we do book bag drives, all sorts of community things.”
Growing up in Inwood Berrios has long sought out a tight-nit community and Uniondale was perfect he said. Since taking over Viper Collision nearly a decade ago, Saul said community involvement has been central to the company’s mission. The shop regularly partners with local organizations on clothing and backpack drives and has worked with the John J. Byrne Community Center and the Uniondale Chamber of Commerce on neighborhood initiatives.
“Growing up – I wish somebody would help me, you see all your friends showing a brand new JanSport bag,” he said. “And I’m the kid recycling my old stuff from last year.”
The show still attracted a strong turnout, Berrios estimated the fundraiser would generate more than $1,000 through donations, registration fees and vendor contributions.
“I’m into cars, I know a lot of people into cars – we can host a car show here, and that’ll raise money,” Berrios said about the community center.
Beyond the fundraiser, visitors spent the afternoon exploring rows of classic cars, customized imports, luxury sports cars and motorcycles as music from a live DJ filled the parking lot. One of the event’s biggest attractions was a $20 raffle for a customized Acura Integra.
