A Copiague man has been charged in connection with a stabbing during a dispute at a Levittown residence, according to Nassau County police.
Police said David McCarthy, 41, was involved in a verbal argument with a 28-year-old man at a Haven Lane home in Levittown at about 5 p.m. on June 4. Investigators said the argument escalated and McCarthy allegedly stabbed the victim in the leg, causing a severe laceration.
The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
According to police, McCarthy fled the scene prior to officers arriving. Following an investigation, detectives located and arrested him without incident. No other injuries were reported.
McCarthy, who is from Copiague, was charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was scheduled to be arraigned June 5 in First District Court in Hempstead.
The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
