Students at East Broadway Elementary School in the Levittown School District welcomed Capt. Tom Brown, a New York City Fire Department firefighter who served at Ground Zero following the events of Sept. 11, 2001, for a meaningful and firsthand lesson in history and remembrance on Sept. 14.
Capt. Brown’s visit was especially significant, as it marked his return to the building 25 years after he first visited Mrs. Goldberg’s class. During his visit, he spoke with Mrs. Goldberg’s current students and their peers, sharing his personal experiences and reflections from Sept. 11 and its aftermath.
For students, the opportunity to hear directly from someone who witnessed and served during one of the most significant moments in our nation’s history provided a powerful connection to the past. Capt. Brown also spoke about the courage and service demonstrated by first responders during and after the attacks.
District officials said they are grateful to Capt. Brown for returning to share his story with a new generation of students and for helping ensure that the events of Sept. 11, 2001, and the sacrifices of those who served are never forgotten.
