Forest Lake Elementary School has fitness in the 'frost'

The weather outside the Forest Lake Elementary School auditorium was frightfully cold during the month of February, but Wantagh students raised their core body temperatures as they tried out numerous stations reflected in the Winter Wonderland theme.

According to physical education teacher Christine Moran, the winter-themed unit assisted students with developing their core, muscle strengthening, coordination and aerobic skills. Stations included a luge, ski jump, ice hockey and speed skating. Students were able to ice fish, throw items into the holes of Yeti Mountain and walk across buckets at Mogul Mountain. Technology was also infused into the unit with the incorporation of technology as they jogged in place at Snow Mountain.

Moran, who is known for her creative physical education units, said “I really wanted the students to have a good time, because they have been really pent up inside with the weather.”
